This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring PADS4 Viewer on the IAdea XMP-8550 / XMP-8552 (Android 12) device.

1. First-Time Use

Before installation, ensure that the PADS4 Server is set up and configured properly.
The minimum PADS4 Server version required is PADS4 Foundation 2023.1.
When you turn on the device for the first time, it will display the Basic Settings screen. (If not, reset the device as described in section 1.2 Resetting the Device.)

1.1 Prerequisites

Before installing PADS4IAdea on the IAdea XMP-8550 / XMP-8552, ensure the following conditions are met:
  • OS: Android 12
  • Firmware Version: 4.0.2-48
  • Network Connectivity: Device must be connected to a network

1.2 Resetting the Device

If the device was used previously, perform a factory reset to clear storage and prevent software conflicts.

Step One

Open the Basic Settings on IAdea.

Click on Advanced.

Select System → Factory Default.

Press OK to start the factory reset.
After resetting, the Basic Settings screen will appear.

1.3 Checking Device Firmware

To ensure full PADS4 Viewer compatibility, verify that the device is running firmware version 4.0.2-48.

The Firmware Version is displayed on the right side of the screen.

1.4 Updating Device Firmware

If the firmware is outdated, update it following IAdea’s official instructions. Firmware updates are available on the IAdea Support Page.

2. Installing PADS4 Viewer

Follow the steps below to install and configure PADS4 Viewer on the IAdea XMP-8550 / XMP-8552.

2.1 Installing PADS4IAdea from USB Stick

The PADS4IAdea.apk file is available on the PADS4 Server at:
https://[YourPADS4Server]/PADS4/apps  
Alternatively, download the latest version from here and place it in the PADS4 Server apps directory.

Installation Steps

Step One

Copy the PADS4IAdea.apk onto a USB stick.

Step Two

Insert the USB stick into the IAdea XMP-8550 / XMP-8552 device.

Open Basic Settings.

Click on Advanced.

Click three times in the lower right corner of the Advanced menu to access Android.

The Android Home Screen will now be visible.

Open the File Manager app.

Allow storage and USB permissions if prompted.

Click on Internal Storage (top left), then select USB Storage.

Select PADS4IAdea.apk and click Install.

Once installed, press Open.

3. Configuring the Device for PADS4IAdea

To ensure PADS4 Viewer starts automatically, update the device settings.

3.1 Setting Automatic Start

Open the PADS4IAdea app and click on System Settings.

Click on Advanced.

Select Content → AppStart.

Open the Advanced submenu.

In Package Name, enter:
com.pads4.viewer.iadea

Click Set to save the setting.

Click the Back button to return to Basic Settings.

3.2 Connecting to PADS4 Server

PADS4 Server Address Format:
protocol://host:port/hostpath/  
  • Protocol: http or https (depends on SSL certificate).
  • Host: DNS name or IP address of PADS4 Server.
  • Port: (Optional - specify only if using non-default ports).
  • Host Path: Configured in System Management (default: PADS4).

Connection Steps

Enter the PADS4 Server Location.

Step Two - *Optional*

Specify a Viewer Name (if left blank, PADS4 will generate one).

Press Start.

Step Four

Grant permission to permanently store content when prompted.

Step Five

Chrome will update in the background, and the app will restart.

4. Updating PADS4 Viewer & PADS4IAdea App

The PADS4 Viewer & PADS4IAdea app will automatically update when the PADS4 Server is updated.
