First-time setup: check firmware

Before installing PADS4, verify the display’s firmware version:
  1. Go to Settings > About > Android TV OS build.
  2. Check the version number shown before “release keys”.
  3. If the display is online, check for firmware updates under About.
  4. If the display is offline, download the latest firmware from Sony’s firmware page.

Install PADS4Sony from a USB stick

Install the PADS4Sony launcher from a USB flash drive.
  1. Download the PADS4Sony .pkg file from the PADS4 GitHub releases page.
  2. Copy the .pkg file to a USB flash drive and insert it into the Sony display.
  3. Perform a factory reset on the display (skip on a brand-new display):
    • Go to Settings > System > About > Reset > Factory data reset.
    • Select Erase everything.
  4. The display begins the factory reset within 15 seconds and reboots.
  5. When the initial setup screen appears (language selection), do not start the setup process.
  6. The display detects the .pkg file on the USB drive and shows the package installation screen.
  7. Select Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
  8. After installation, the TV opens an activation screen.
  9. Scroll to the bottom and select Activate this device admin app.
  10. When the “Install is complete” message appears, remove the USB drive and select OK.
  11. The display returns to the initial setup screen. Complete the setup, but skip the Google account sign-in.
Allow all permission requests presented during or immediately after installation.
