This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring PADS4 Viewer on Giada DN73 & DN74 devices running Android 7.1.


1. First-Time Use

During installation, you will need to configure the PADS4 Server location. It is recommended to complete the PADS4 Server installation first before proceeding with device setup.

The minimum PADS4 Server version required for the PADS4Giada app is PADS4 Foundation 2022.1.
The minimum PADS4Giada version supporting DN73 and DN74 is PADS4Giada 1.0.

1.1 Resetting the Device

If the device was previously used, a factory reset is recommended to clear storage and prevent interference with the PADS4 Viewer software.

Click Reset Tablet.

Confirm by clicking Erase Everything.


1.2 Updating Firmware

Ensure the Giada DN73 & DN74 devices are running PADS4-supported firmware versions before installing the PADS4Giada app.

1.3 Enabling Default Superuser Access

This step is required to enable automatic updates of the PADS4Giada app. If Superuser Access is not granted, manual interaction will be required for updates.

Open the SuperSU app.

Select Grant in the dialog that appears.

Optional: To reset screen orientation, navigate to:

2. Installing PADS4 Viewer

Follow the steps below to install and configure PADS4 Viewer on Giada DN73 and DN74.


2.1 Installing PADS4Giada from USB Stick

The PADS4Giada.apk is available on the PADS4 Server in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\PADS4\Clients\Apps

Alternatively, download the latest version from here and place it in the PADS4 Server apps directory to ensure the correct version is installed.

Copy the PADS4Giada.apk to a USB stick.

Insert the USB stick into the Giada DN73/DN74 device.

Open the File Explorer app on the device.

Select USB Storage.

Click on the APK file to install.

If prompted with a security warning, click Settings.

Enable Unknown Sources and confirm by clicking OK.

Return to File Explorer and click the APK file again.

Click Install in the confirmation dialog.

After installation, click Open to start the PADS4Giada app.


2.2 Validating Date & Time Configuration

Ensure the date and time are set correctly to avoid certificate errors or connection issues.

2.3 Connecting to PADS4 Server

PADS4 Server Address Format:

protocol://host:port/hostpath/
  • Protocol: HTTP or HTTPS (depends on SSL certificate).
  • Host: DNS name or IP address of PADS4 Server.
  • Port: (Optional - specify only if using non-default ports).
  • Host Path: Configured in System Management (default: PADS4).

Connection Steps

Enter the PADS4 Server Location.

Specify a Viewer Name (if left blank, PADS4 will generate one).

Press Start.

Grant permission to store content when prompted.

Step Five

If Android System WebView is outdated, it will be updated automatically.

The PADS4 Viewer will be downloaded and installed.

Step Seven

If prompted, set PADS4Giada as the Home App and press Always.


2.4 Adjusting PADS4 Viewer Settings

To access Viewer Settings:

  • Press and hold the left mouse button or touch the screen for 3 seconds.

2.5 Updating PADS4 Viewer & PADS4Giada App

The PADS4 Viewer & PADS4Giada app will automatically update when the PADS4 Server is updated.


2.6 Accessing Android Menu

If you access the Android Menu while PADS4Giada is running, the device will reboot in 30 seconds (as the Viewer Monitor Service detects inactivity).

To prevent reboot, stop the PADS4Giada app within 30 seconds.


3. Supported Features & Limitations

Below are the supported features and limitations for PADS4 Viewer on Giada DN73 & DN74 (Android 7.1).

4. General Limitations

Data ProvidersHTML5 Viewer cannot read data directly from external sources; it must be retrieved through the PADS4 Data Server.

Proof of Play Storage Limit – Stores up to 50,000 records offline. When the limit is reached, the oldest records are automatically deleted.
Storage Capacity – The available storage for content varies depending on the device and browser.
