Media RSS (Rich Site Summary) extends the RSS web feed format to support multimedia content such as videos and images stored in a local file.

Steps to Add or Modify a Media RSS File Connection

1. Start the Data Provider Wizard

  • Open the Data Provider Wizard by following the instructions in Adding a Data Provider or Editing a Data Provider.
  • Select Media RSS File as the provider type.

2. Specify the Media RSS File Location

  • Choose between:
    • Content Library (Recommended) → Uses a file stored in the PADS4 Content Library.
    • File Name → Uses a file outside the Content Library (must specify the full file path).
  • Click Browse to locate and select the Media RSS file.

3. Finalize the Connection

  • Click Next to proceed.
  • Complete the setup by finishing the Data Provider Wizard.

Important Considerations

  • Using a PADS4 Data Server
    • If a PADS4 Data Server is in use, ensure that the Media RSS file is accessible from the server’s point of view.
    • If not using a Data Server, confirm that PADS4 Designer and PADS4 Viewers can locate the Media RSS file.
  • Using a Downloaded Media RSS File
    • To save a Media RSS feed from the internet:
      1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
      2. Navigate to the Media RSS feed.
      3. Right-click the browser window and select “View Source”.
      4. Save the content as a .xml file for local use.
By following these steps, PADS4 will successfully retrieve and display multimedia content from a Media RSS file.
