This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring PADS4 Viewer on Sony BZxx Series Displays.


Supported Sony BZxx Models

The following Sony BZxx Series displays are supported:

  • BZ53L
  • BZ50L
  • BZ40L
  • BZ35L
  • BZ30L
  • BZ30J

Ensure your PADS4 Server is installed and configured before proceeding.


Minimum Requirements

PADS4 Server Version: 2024.2.6 or later
Firmware Version: 6.7612 or later

Ensure your device firmware meets the minimum requirements before proceeding with installation.


First-Time Setup

Before installing PADS4, you need to check the firmware version.

How to check the current firmware version:
1️. Go to Settings -> About -> Android TV OS Build
2️. Check the version number before “release keys”
3️. If an internet connection is available, check for firmware updates under About
4️. If no internet connection is available, download the latest firmware from Sony’s firmware page


Installing PADS4Sony from USB Stick

You will install PADS4Sony from a USB flash drive.

Steps to Install PADS4Sony:

Step One

Download the PADS4Sony .pkg file from PADS4 App Center.

Step Two

Copy the .pkg file to a USB flash drive and insert the drive into the Sony display.

Step Three

Perform a Factory Reset on the display:

  • Go to Settings -> System -> About -> Reset -> Factory Data Reset
  • Choose “Erase everything”
  • (Skip this step if setting up a brand-new display)

Step Four

The display will begin a factory reset within 15 seconds and reboot.

Step Five

When the initial setup screen appears (language selection), do not start the setup process.

Step Six

The display will detect the bpk file on the USB drive and present the package installation screen.

Step Seven

Choose “Install” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step Eight

After installation, the TV will open an activation screen.

Scroll to the bottom and select “Activate this device admin app.”

Step Ten

An “Install is complete” message will appear. Remove the USB drive and select OK.

Step Eleven

The display will return to the initial setup screen. Complete the setup but skip the Google account sign-in step.

Allow all permission requests during or before installation.


Connecting to PADS4 Server

You must configure the PADS4 Server URL to establish a connection.

PADS4 Server URL Format:

<protocol>://<host>:<port>/<hostpath>/

Protocol: http or https (based on SSL certificate)
Host: DNS name or IP address of the PADS4 Server
Port: Optional (use only if PADS4 Server is not on the default HTTP/HTTPS ports)
Default Hostpath: PADS4

Steps to Connect to the PADS4 Server

Step One

Enter the PADS4 Server Location.

Step Two

(Optional) Enter a Viewer Name (or let the PADS4 Server generate one).

Step Three

Press Start.

Wait for the Viewer Download to complete, then the Viewer will start.

Step Five

When prompted, grant permission to permanently store content on the device.

Now the PADS4 Viewer will start and connect to the PADS4 Server.


Adjusting PADS4 Viewer Settings

You can adjust PADS4 Viewer settings directly on the display.

Steps to access settings:
1️. Connect a mouse to the device.
2️. Right-click the mouse to open the Viewer Settings menu.
3️. Make adjustments to screen orientation, display settings, etc.

You can also return to the PADS4Sony configuration by clicking the “Launcher Settings” button.


Updating PADS4Sony App

The PADS4Sony app updates automatically when the PADS4 Server is updated.

How to manually update the app:
1️. Check the PADS4 Server version.
2️. If a new version is available, restart the Sony display.
3️. The PADS4Sony app will update automatically.


Accessing the Android Menu While PADS4 is Running

To access quick settings:

  1. Press the “Options” button on the remote.
    2️. Adjust various quick settings from this menu.

To access the full settings menu:
1️. Press the “Home” button on the remote.
2️. The PADS4 app will close.
3️. To restart PADS4, go to: Settings -> System -> Restart.

Now the PADS4 application will start automatically.
