# Separator properties

The **separator properties** define how **separators** are displayed between rows in a table. **Separators** can be used to visually indicate **category changes, group transitions, or significant breaks in data** (e.g., **a new day, different department, or category change**).

## **Setting Up a Separator**

### **Add or Modify a Separator**

1. Click **Add** to create a new separator or **Edit** to modify an existing one.
2. Define the **condition (IF clause)** that determines **when** the separator appears.
3. Click **Show Separator (THEN clause)** to design the separator’s visual properties.
4. Add **page elements, text, images, or lines** to the separator.
5. Click **Close > Yes to Save > OK** to apply the changes.

## **Separator Conditions (IF Clause)**

* A separator appears **only if its condition is met** for a specific row.
* **Examples of conditions:**
  * **Date Change:** Show a separator when the **date** in the next row is different.
  * **Category Change:** Display a separator when a **product category** changes.
  * **Location Change:** Show a separator when the **location or department name** changes.

> **Example Use Case:**
>
> * **Event Schedule Table:** Show a separator when moving from **Morning Events to Afternoon Events**.
> * **Stock Market Ticker:** Insert a separator when switching from **Tech Stocks to Healthcare Stocks**.

## **Managing Multiple Separators**

* **Only one separator is applied at a time** based on the first **valid condition**.
* The **sequence of separators matters**—the system **checks separators in order** from **top to bottom**.
* Use **Move Up / Move Down** to **prioritize separators**.

## **Removing a Separator**

* Click **Remove** to delete an existing separator.

## **Important Considerations**

* **Row-Based Logic:**
  * The separator’s **condition applies to the first row** in a comparison.
  * The **row number is determined at runtime**—it **automatically adjusts** as rows are processed.
* **Designing the Separator:**
  * You can use **text, lines, images, or colored backgrounds** to create a visual break.
  * **Align elements horizontally or stack them across two lines** for clarity.
  * You **cannot** include **another table element** inside a separator.

## **Dynamic Adjustments**

* **Separator Height Adjustments:**
  * If any **elements within the separator become invisible**, the system **automatically resizes** the separator height.
  * The **width is automatically set** to match the table width.
